What are injectable neurotoxins?
Injectable neurotoxins are non-surgical treatments that help to treat the appearance of existing dynamic lines and wrinkles, while also helping to prevent against the formation of new ones. Dynamic lines and wrinkles are the signs of aging that form as the result of repeated facial expressions – such as smiling, frowning, laughing, and squinting. Two of the most popular injectable neurotoxin treatments are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®. These injectables work by administering a small amount of a safe and purified toxin (botulinumtoxinA) into the underlying facial muscles responsible for making these expressions. This helps to relax the muscle, to minimize or decrease muscle contractions while smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are different from other injectable treatments such as fillers, which replenish volume to treat folds and irregularities rather than targeting the underlying muscles. Am I a good candidate for an injectable treatment?

Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are formulated using purified botulinum toxin. BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is one of the most popular and well-known cosmetic treatments in the world because it was the first product to be approved by FDA to be used for cosmetic purposes in the 1980s.
Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) has also been approved by FDA to be used for cosmetic purposes and has been around for over a decade. Some patients may have a preference for their neurotoxin because they feel that the results are better with one vs. the other. Both products are excellent and can be used interchangeably.
What to expect after your BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® treatment
Your BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® treatment will be performed in-office at our cosmetic surgery suite in Bay Harbor Islands. Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will personalize your treatment to target your specific concerns and achieve your desired outcome. Your appointment will take just about 30 minutes (the treatment itself takes just a few minutes), after which you can immediately return to your normal routine and work.
There is no recovery associated with either BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®. Some minor bruising or redness may occur, but will typically fade over the first couple days after treatment. Results from your BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® treatment will last approximately 3 to 5 months.
